I have to tell you that there is actually a lot of free stuff to do in Houston on a weekend. There have been a number of times when my friends and I are down to next to nothing in our bank accounts and can’t hit the clubs or bars that night. This leaves us with either staying home and watching reruns on television or playing video games in one of our basements. Instead of doing this, I decided we need to get out and do something on these nights. To make it better, we needed something to do that was really silly and free. It took a little thought and some research on our part. We wanted to do something that didn’t involve going to watch some street entertainers like clowns or, even worse, mimes (which are just scarier clowns, if you ask me). We looked in the local newspapers and even checked online to see if we could come up with any ideas. It was then that one of my buddies actually hit upon something that we could do that would get us out of the house and not cost any money at all. We went back through all of the crazy things we used to do in high school that kept us entertained and didn’t cost anything because somehow we had even less money back then compared to what we have now. We all piled into my buddy’s car and went driving around the town. We cranked the music loud, all singing songs from the eighties and nineties at the top of our lungs. We decided to start out by doing some of the goofy things we used to do all the time. At the first traffic light, someone called for a Chinese fire drill. We all jumped out of the car and began to run around to the opposite sides. This would have worked better if one, my friends hadn’t liked the door on their side of the car when they got out, and two, and the driver had put the car in park. As soon as we all got out, the car started to roll through the intersection. We tried to jump in the passenger side, but the door was locked. Before we knew it, the car rolled through, luckily going untouched. That is until it reached the bumper of a parked car across the street. It just barely nudged it, but it set off the car alarm. We all ran to the car, got in the unlocked side, and took off as fast as we could. Needless to say, we went home after that and the adventure was over. From then on, when we want some free stuff to do in Houston, we sit outside on my friend’s patio, watch the world go by, and wonder when we got so old and not so smart.
