Are you ready in the event of a national emergency situation? Would you be able to sustain yourself and your loved ones if a natural disaster struck and forced you to flee your home? These are questions that ought to be answered by everyone. Even small disaster situations might mean that your home will be left without running water, electricity or natural gas. Emergency responders will likely be swamped with calls more urgent than your own, so being able to sustain yourself at home or in the wild is an important scenario to plan for. I have a dedicated duffle bag that has gear ready for an emergency. Many of you have heard the terms 'bug out bag' or 72 hour kit. My duffle bag is designed to supplement the items in my evacuation kit. My bug out bag has items essential for survival, such as water (and a water purifier), food, shelter and first aid. There is little other room to carry other optional gear for surviving in the wilderness. That is where my survival duffle bag comes in. This duffle bag is larger, and therefore has more room for tools, expanded shelter and an increased food and water capacity. The bag I have and use is heavy and is meant to be thrown in a car for mobile evacuation. Our individual bug out bags can be carried on our backs, but our survival duffle bag is meant to be carried by our vehicle. It affords us options. Any survival situation is about having more options. The more options you have, the more comfortably you will pass through the emergency situation, and can possibly end up saving a life. The key to all of this is being ready when the emergency hits. Preparing a kit when an evacuation order has been issued may be too late. Make a plan today so you will be ready for any disaster that comes your way. Emergency preparedness is essential for your safety and the safety of your family.
