Sant Pere del Bosc chapel- Once the journey from the airport at Barcelona to Lloret de Mar has nearly come to an end, the Sant Pere del Bosc chapel, just five kilometres from the centre of town and frequently passed on the way to many hotels, is undoubtedly a beautiful way to be welcomed. It is said that Benedictine monks inhabited the gothic monastery until it was set on fire by French invaders in 1694. In 1789, the church was rebuilt in Baroque style, however the “golden age” of the Sant Pere did not begin until 1860, when Nicolau Font I Maig purchased the chapel and the land around it. It was, and still remains, the mostly lordly estate in Lloret. Sant Joan Castle- Once in the town, the Sant Joan Castle is a must-see. The magnificent castle sits on top of the mountain that separates beaches of Lloret de Mar and Fenals and it is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the city. It was built in the 11th century and at that time the city was subject to numerous attacks by pirates and the castle served as a refuge for the inhabitants of the coastal area. The castle was destroyed in 1356 after the attack of the Genoese fleet and also during the strong earthquakes that took place between 1427-1428. Both times, it was restored and it retained its defensive purposes until the 17th century. In 2001, archaeological excavations took place on the castle site. Once they were complete, the museum, which is currently on its territory, was founded. It is a tremendous opportunity for visitors to experience an atmosphere of the Middle Ages and also learn more about the history of this lovely town.
