Although Facebook is the largest social network on the internet, the largest business network is Linkedin. Regardless of what type of business you own, you want to build a presence for your business here. You never know who may be looking for a specific type of business like a chiropractor, or some other type of business, and it allows you to connect with others in your industry. Linkedin also allows you to find employees, connect with other business owners, and read industry news. Make it your first source for information on business, and you will save a lot of time. Before you start using this site though, here's what you need to do: 1. Build a complete profile. The more information you include on your profile, the easier it will be to connect with those you want to connect with. Linkedin allows you to list what you are looking for. Whether it's networking, a job, new employees, or some other need your business may have, you can list it on your profile. Linkedin profiles are public too, so it allows you to optimize for the search engines and be found more easily. 2. Build a business page for your company. Linkedin added a feature where you may create a page for your company. This allows you to put the focus on your company and help others understand how you can help solve their problems. It also creates further visibility for your company, so make sure you create one. Show other business owners what you do and how you can help them. 3. Connect with others in your industry. Linkedin has over 100 million members. You'll find people from just about any industry you could possibly want to connect with. Search this site and find those in your industry and connect with them. This may lead to new business for you, or least allow you to leverage your business interests by connecting with new joint venture partners. Search by industry or keyword and then connect. 4. Participate in groups. There are groups available on just about every aspect of business. Join groups where you can share your expertise as well as connect with others. If you are self employed like I am, and you usually work alone, this will allow you to get out of your comfort zone and connect with like minded individuals to grow your business. It will also help you stay on track with your business especially if you find a group for mastermind. 5. Advertise your business. Linkedin offers paid advertising on its website now allowing you to market to your target market. Before using this feature though, because it is paid, make sure you understand how it works. More importantly, be careful in targeting those you wish to reach. Otherwise, you could end up spending a lot of money needlessly and not reach your target market. Because this is a business site it works very differently than traditional social sites. Linkedin is your best choice when you market business to business. It's also a great way to find new employees and begin to build your presence on the internet. Make sure you take advantage of it. It will increase your bottom line when used the right way.
