No matter how well you care for your carpet, it will eventually wear out over time. Heavy foot traffic, improper installation, or poor quality can all become factors for a split seam. Repairing a split carpet seam is very easy and cheap. There are several common factors that cause split carpet seam but we are not aware of them mostly. repair for the latter only needs minimal skills and tools. With a bit of know-how, you can have curled-up edges tacked down in no time. Is your carpet coming apart at the seams? If part of your carpet is coming up, it may be seam that's to blame. Lift the carpet just a bit to see what's under there. If what you see looks like some sort of industrial tape, then yes, it's coming apart at the seams. Often times a carpet seam splits apart because it was never sealed properly. This is especially true with woven or what's incorrectly called a Berber carpet. When this is the case, one or two rows of carpet will begin to come loose right at the seam. Split carpet seams can be a problem in both residential and commercial carpet alike. Carpet seam splitting can be caused by improper installation, such as seams that weren't thoroughly secured and properly aligned. Carpet seams also come apart due to poor quality seam tape and adhesives. The last reason carpet seams split apart is due to age and traffic. If your carpet has been in continuous use for thirty or forty years and the seams are splitting apart, then the carpet has lasted far longer that it was ever designed to last. More common in carpet repair, though, is the need to re-seam a loose carpet as part of the carpet re-stretching process. The very first thing you should do to repair a split carpet seam is a tape which would be available at any of home improvement stores nearby you. It is a very good option when it comes to repair a split carpet seam. Start by measuring the length of the split seam on your floor covering. Next, cut up some carpet tape that is just enough to fit the section you measured. This type of adhesive can be purchased at hardware and home supply stores. Once the previous step is done, pull back one edge of the carpet. With the help of a pencil, draw a line on the floor along the edge where the other part of the covering meets the floor. This will enable you to determine the center point where you will be placing the tape. Proceed to pulling back the edges of the carpet to make room for the adhesive. Then, remove the tack paper from both sides of the carpet tape. Position the latter over the pencil line and lay it securely on the floor.
