Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia (1238-1325), the successor of Hazrat Baba Farid was a great saint of the Chishti Order of Sufis in India during the 14th century. His Holiness believed in the principles of secularism, love and peace. He stressed on renunciation of worldly pleasures and service to mankind, which in turn draws one closer to God. His Holiness since childhood was very simple yet very charismatic. He won the hearts of the people by his love and liberalism, sincerity of purpose, charity, piety and social service. He had hundreds of disciples from all strata of the society. After an illness of about four months he expired in 725 A.H. (1324 A.D.) and was buried in Ghiyaspur, which is named after him today. The place Hazrat Nizamuddin was earlier a small village or settlement which has now developed vastly. The dargah of his Holiness is located at this place. Along Nizamuddin West are the dargah complex and a lively market while Nizamuddin East is primarily a posh residential area. Much near to the dargah is the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station which is an important station in New Delhi. Humayun’s Tomb, Chausath Khamba, Mirza Ghalib’s tomb, Barakhamba, Blue Gumbad at the Nizamuddin Circle and Lal Mahal are some other important monuments in the Nizamuddin heritage area. Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya Dargah of Delhi is a place of amazing spirituality and mysticism. The dargah also entombs Amir Khusrau, a poet and the saint's favourite disciple. The dargah was built by Muhammad Tughluq around 970 A.H. (1562-63) and is considered as one of the most holy shrines by the Muslims. Other tombs enshrined in the Delhi Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya Dargah are those of Jahan Ara Begum, Shah Jahan's daughter and Mirza Ghalib, a distinguished poet. The domed roof, long verandas and arched gateways all add to the architectural beauty of the dargah. Even people from other communities visit the shrine seeking fulfilment of their prayers. The inside of the dargah is amazingly calm and peaceful despite mad chaos and noise outside. Every Thursday evening Qawwali singers perform here after the evening prayers. In order to reach Nizamuddin dargah, tourists can either take local buses from different places within the city or they can take auto-rickshaws, taxis or metro rail. Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station served by Northern Railway is one of the three most important railway stations in India. It was developed with an idea of easing out the train traffic at New Delhi Railway Station. It lays along the 2 main roads i.e. the Ring Road and Mathura Road. The station is a destination for many trains coming from major Indian cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kochi, Trivandrum, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Pune, Jabalpur, Indore, Gwalior, Bhopal, Lucknow, Chennai, India, Kanyakumari, Madurai etc. For More Info: Hazrat Nizamuddin New Delhi and Places to Visit in New Delhi
