If you run a membership site, even though it is secure, it's still a good idea to get it indexed in the search engines. The reason is that search engine optimization can get you additional traffic especially if your site has been optimized. It will also allow you to give potential members a taste of your content and make them want to sign up. Before you think of submitting to the search engines, there are certain things you will need to do to prepare your site for the search engines so that it indexes well without giving away your content. 1. Keep your design simple and clean. The less HTML and code you have in your site, the easier it will be for the search engines to index it. It is also easier for the search engines to read your content and index it correctly for the topic. Navigation for your members will be easier too, and it will help them in finding what they want. 2. Use good titles, metatags, and descriptions. You want to tell the search engines what your topic is about. Optimize your titles, tags, and descriptions. This is what will show up in the search engines. Give searchers a reason to want to read your content. Include your keywords in your title and your description when you write them. 3. Build your member site with Wordpress. I use Wordpress for my member site, and I couldn't be happier. It makes it so easy to add content, rotate it, and also to distribute it. It also allows future posts with both posts and pages, so you can send out the content whenever you want. There are plenty of plugins, like S2Member that allow you to secure your content as well as send it to your readers. Wordpress will offer you plenty of flexibility, and you can keep your content secure too. 4. Use a script or plugin that requires members to sign up to see all the content. As I mentioned before, I use S2Member because it has so many options, and I can also use different checkout options like Pay Pal, Clickbank, and Google Checkout. There are plenty of others, and you can even try these plugins out to find the one you like and can afford. These plugins will also allow you to prevent readers from seeing all the content so they sign up, so make sure you use one. 5. Consider getting someone to design your site for you. If you're very web savvy, then find someone else to do the work for you. If you use Wordpress, you can always start with the Wordpress forums. There are also plenty of other webmaster forums where you can find designers to do the work for you for a competitive price. Make sure you have a plan in place to maintain your membership site once you build it. Get a design that is search engine friendly so your content gets indexed. Want to learn to make money online?
