Blepharitis is a disease of the eyelid that is usually marked with inflammation and is caused due to bacterial overgrowth. These bacteria are normally present on the skin or are symbiotic bacteria that do not cause any condition when the body is healthy. But, when there is an overgrowth of this kind of bacteria, which is normally present in the skin, this causes blepharitis. It may also be caused due to overproduction of oil, which may be precipitated by the presence of cosmetic agents or eyelash enhancers like generic Latisse. The disease condition is mostly self resolving and does not cause any loss of vision to eye or to the surrounding structures, and rarely causes death. Blepharitis affects both the upper and lower eyelids and are more persistent in older people and infants. The disease is self limiting and resolving when it occurs in healthy adults. Generic Latisse in HIV patients causing Blepharitis complication. Blepharitis frequently occurs in people, who are infected with HIV or human immunovirus. This is mainly due to a compromise in the immune system of the host, as HIV affects the immune system and would suppress the immune system making the body more prone to other bacterial and viral infections. Blepharitis can also occur in people having undergone recent transplant surgery, and in people taking anti-rejection drugs, as anti-rejection drugs are immune suppressing agents and would make the body amenable to more opportunistic infections. Certain allergic conditions can also produce blepharitis or inflammation of the eyelids. Antibiotics are also relied upon to a greater extent in the treatment of blepharitis. In cases of allergic reaction causing belpharitis, the ideal choice of treatment would be to use antihistamines in the form of an ophthalmic solution. The likely prognosis is good with adequate and proper treatment. In cases of people suffering with conjunctivitis (inflammation of the eye) along with blepharitis, the course of treatment would take a longer duration, but the prognosis would be extent. There are many other reasons that would cause blepharitis other than bacterial and viral infections. They are seborrheic keratoses, lice, allergies, styes, and chalazia. These secondary blepharitis also have a positive outcome with appropriate treatment. Cosmetics and Blepharitis Certain cosmetic agents when used may harbor the growth of bacteria, and provide ambience for the growth and multiplication of bacteria. When the eyelids are quite large, they are also known to cause increased colony of bacteria. It is highly advisable to not use generic Latisse or any other kind of cosmetic agents. Other cosmetic agents that would clog the small pores on the skin are also to be avoided. Eyelash glitters are also to be avoided if one suffers from any sort of eye infection. Home Remedies Application of warm compresses twice a day for 15 minutes would go a long way in the treatment of the disease.
