Selecting food for your British cat is an individual thing. Maybe, when having dry food and enough water, your pet will not be sick and will live a long life. To be absolutely sure about your cat’s health, you should have a general analysis of your pet’s feces and urine. If everything is okay – you are lucky and dry food is exactly what your cat needs. Anyway, it all depends on your pet whether you should give it dry or canned food. British cats are one of the most popular breeds in the world. And, to tell the truth, one of the most resistant to illnesses. But, unfortunately, some breeders who want to make more money, neglect the rules. The result is cats with weak immunity and inherent illnesses. Well, if you look through pet food reviews, you will see that many owners and even vets don’t recommend giving animals dry food. Why? Dry food has negative influence on cat’s digestion. The main benefit of dry food is convenience: there is no need to cook, buy vitamins and other additives. But in reality dry food is not that good as we think. 1. It’s made of byproducts and meat of a bad quality (heads, blood, lungs, fat etc.). 2. After various kinds of treatment, these products become safe for cats. The problem is with cereals: instead of actually adding them, manufacturers use starch. 3. If you remember, in 2007 in the US there were recalled such dry foods as “Iams”, “Eukanuba”, “Hill’s Science Diet”, and “Purina Mighty Dog” as they contained rat poison and pesticides which caused deaths of 20% of pets. Sure, this is a pure consequence, but still you see the risks. Numerous researches prove that dry food causes such diseases in cats as fat liver dystrophy, teeth diseases, diseases of kidneys and urinary tracts, mycotoxins, inflammatory diseases of the digestive tract, and many more. Natural food for cats has to be rich for proteins and poor for carbs. Cats should eat meat (beef and poultry are perfect). It’s up to you to decide which food to give to your cat – dry, canned or homemade one. Dry food is the cheapest and doesn’t trouble owners of a pet. But, many specialists think it doesn’t correspond to the digestion peculiarities in cats. You can only make the situation with dry food better if you buy high quality products, keep them in vacuum package and adding canned food to the cat’s diet. The best choice for cat’s health is natural meat food. In this case you will have to cook often and additionally buy vitamins. Natural feeding will be more expensive, but your cat will be healthier than if he ate dry food. If your cat eats natural food, he may live for 20-25 years (dry food allows cats living only 10-12 years). By the way, canned food is a good alternative to natural products. The only disadvantage of pet canned food is absence of hard fibers, so you will have to brush your cat’s teeth to avoid your pet from dental calculus and further gingivitis.
