Independent schools are educational institutions that function well on their own without the need of assistance and funding from outside sources, apart from the tuition that they receive from the parents or guardians of their students. They are very similar to private institutions in the sense that they thrive in self-governance and that they are financially independent. Some of the private ones are also branches of a main one. On the other hand, many of the private academies can also claim independence from the government as the parochial sector that means it can also be one and the same. Public ones are usually funded and governed by the government or the state. There can be several levels in independent schools such as the elementary, secondary and tertiary levels. These institutions are usually closely akin to private academies. Despite the number of institutions, which can claim independence and being private, there are also a lot of public centers that cater to the general public. In fact, there are more enrollees in the public sectors than in the private ones. Concepts and Goals Independent schools have similar goals with other academies and universities; and that is to educate individuals and help them reach their goals. The curriculum that these places offer their students can be similar to that of public institutions but they usually claim to be more effective in their teaching because of the fewer number of students that they have per class. This is mainly due to the fact that private tuition is considerably high compared to what parents need to pay for public education, if there is any. There are also many different requirements that are needed in order to be educated in private facilities. In spite having similar curriculum as public facilities, these institutions and private ones can actually be free enough to decide their mission as an educational entity, acceptance of students who are of like mind and the freedom to keep only these students, be free to define the qualifications of the educators who will be teaching these students as well as the freedom to impart the knowledge and lessons that they deem necessary and to assess the progress and achievement of said pupils. Independent schools do not actually have as much free will as they want since they will also need to be regulated by the government in the sense that they need to abide with specific laws regarding educational facilities and what they teach and offer their students. Having the freedom to teach what they seem necessary does not mean that they can just go ahead and teach anything, they also need to be careful that they supply the minimum learning competencies that are necessary for each grade level. This is so that their students can cope with the students form other institutions. This is a generalized explanation about what independent schools are. It is always a good idea to check out the brochures that some facilities send out or give to parents of prospective students. Get an education for your children that meet their goals.
