Going on holiday is something we look forward to for days prior to actually going there and it's something that most of us get incredibly excited about in the build-up to leaving. The only thing that prevents us getting too excited though is the small fact that we'll have to deal with something else first before we get to go travelling, and what's that? It's getting to the airport, signing in and presenting all our documents while we hold our breath and hope it all checks out. It's very stressful and very nerve wracking and it can put a downer on the whole experience. Then there's the fact you'll be sat in the car cooped up on the long journey to where you'll be flying from, and the fact that your kids will probably be screaming the whole time and that you'll no doubt get stuck in traffic or get lost. The good news is though that there are several ways you can make this process more stress free, so here we will look at those and help you start your trip as you mean to carry on. Note that I'll be assuming you're travelling by car for the purpose of this article - as anything else will be much more stressful right from the word go. Packing Light The first tip is to pack as light as you possibly can. This can make a big difference to how stressed you are en route because it means more room in the car and less to load in and out. If you can get everything into your hand luggage (forego towels, choose light clothes and buy books out there) then you won't even need to check in. Leaving Early Leaving early is a great way to make the journey less stressful and it means you won't have to worry if you're stuck in traffic. If you get there ages before your flight too that's fine - just spend some time sitting and reading or head over to the bar for a few drinks. To make the whole experience less stressful still, you can even consider leaving the day before and staying at a nearby hotel. This way you can relax and unwind in the morning with a nice fry up and have no fear of being late. Taking the Right Things You can also make the journey less stressful by packing the right things. This means plenty of water and food to help you relax, and for the children it means setting them up with a tablet and their favourite film, or maybe a handheld games console. If you keep them happy they'll make less noise and you'll be able to focus on driving. Parking Finding good parking for your car is also important. This should be near to the airport so that you aren't struggling trying to find it, or wasting time trekking from there to your terminal, and it should also be secure so that you aren't worrying about leaving your car there. Book this in advance so you don't have to try and find somewhere once you arrive.
