If you're taking a shuttle transfer to your holiday in Lloret de Mar, Barcelona is well worth taking at least a few hours to explore before you whisk yourself off to the beach. The city is within easy access of your final destination so taking the time to see the sights won't cut into your precious holiday time too much – and you will be glad you did. Here we have done some of the hard work for you, and present some unmissable sights. The Picasso Museum If you have any interest at all in Pablo Picasso, this is the place to come. While it is certainly not the only museum dedicated to this famous artist, the fact that it is in his home country makes it all the more special. Indeed, this is arguably the most outstanding collection of his paintings you will see anywhere in the world. There are literally thousands of pieces on display, so, if you are a fan, factor in at least a couple of hours to spend here before your transfer to Lloret de Mar. Barcelona and Picasso go together like Spain and tapas! Parc de la Ciutadella The city is famous for its many parks and open spaces, and one of the best of them is the breathtaking Parc de la Ciutadella. Originally opened in 1877, at the time it was the only park of its kind in the city. It is still incredibly popular today with both tourists and locals alike. The gorgeous lake is a delight and you can wander around its perimeter and enjoy the view. Elsewhere, the zoo is an integral and very popular feature of the park – especially with families. Torre Agbar (the Agbar Tower) For one of the most amazing views over the city, this location should be top of your agenda before you head off to Lloret de Mar. Barcelona is even more picturesque from this stunning vantage – but be warned, you must have a head for heights! The Torre Agbar reaches 38 storeys high into the sky, and while it has only been open for a few years, it has garnered a lot of interest in that short time. As you might expect there is an observation area open to the public, so make sure you don’t miss it – and take your camera as the views are nothing short of spectacular. So while you will undoubtedly be keen to head off to your beach break in Lloret de Mar, Barcelona has more than enough to warrant at least a few hours (but preferably a few days) stop over in order to explore this vibrant city.
