JOHOR BARU - Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar saysformer Perak menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddinshould consider apologising to the people of Johor. During an audience with the sultan yesterday, the New Straits Timeswas told by Sultan Ibrahim that he considered Nizar's apologythrough Twitter insincere following a tweet which allegedlycriticised the ruler's purchase of the RM520,000 (S$210,000)-vehicle registration number WWW 1. "If he really wants to apologise, he must seek an apology from mypeople first because he was disrespectful to them. "He (Nizar) should engage his brain before he shoots off hismouth," said Sultan Ibrahim, who earlier appeared before more than30,000 people at a Perhimpunan Ikrar Taat Setia gathering at IstanaPasir Pelangi here. Nizar, through his Twitter account, had said the money used topurchase the number could be used to buy houses for the hardcorepoor. His statement had caused anger among Johoreans and landed himin a controversy. Sultan Ibrahim said his late father, Sultan Iskandar, had alwaystaught him that his priority was his people and that his job was toserve them. "Without the people, there will be no sultan. My father told methat upon taking over as the rule of Johor, I must forget aboutmyself, and instead, my people must come first." The sultan said that it was even tweeted that such an expensiveplate number would not be used on cheap motorcycles or Proton cars. "The reason I bought the number was because I wanted it. The numberis now on my Satria Neo. "It is a Proton car. I had already intended to use it on my ProtonSatria Neo," said the sultan while pointing to the orange carparked outside at the back of the palace. Sultan Ibrahim said in the end, the money used to buy the numberwould contribute to the government's coffer and it should not havebeen an issue in the first place. Earlier in his address to the crowd, Sultan Ibrahim, who wasvisibly overwhelmed by the massive turnout, said he loved hissubjects and it was his duty to take care of their welfare. "There is nothing that can separate me from the rakyat. The loyaltypledge showed that you love me. And I love you all very, very much. "I have something to ask from all of you. Sultan Ibrahim later said that he did not expect so many people tocome to show their support. The ruler said he was deeply touched bythe people's presence.
