One of the most airlines of India which is easily recognized in almost all parts of world is air India which is also seen as the flag career of India in the world of aviation industry. The airline is so popular all around the world that the airline’s mascot which is a maharaja is now one of the most famous mascots in the world. The airline’s main hub is Mumbai airport which is known as Chattrapati Shivaji International airport and Delhi airport also known as Indira Gandhi International airport. The airline provides a complete package of airline service which also includes cargo services. The airline also has an international hub in Frankfurt and London in order to provide better service in international air space. The airline has undergone various changes and has evolved itself in all these years. The airline was started by Famous Indian business tycoon Ratan Tata in 1932 however the airline service was stopped during second world war and when the airline resume its services in 1946, it was converted into a public limited company and was renamed as Air India. Post-independence 49% share of this airline was bought by then Indian government and kept 2% share to be bought in future. The Air India airlines were then launched in the market as the flag bearer airline of India and started its international wing also. In the year 1953, the Indian government bought reserved 2% share by exercising its right to acquire 2% share which they put in the clause at the time of buying 49% share of the airline. After the approval of air corporation act, the airline was nationalized and within one year all the domestic airline services were included in this airline. The year 1960 brings the dawn of jet age era in the world of air India when the airline got its first Boeing 707 420 aircraft. The aircraft was named after two Hindu god and goddess Gauri Shankar. The first jet service was launched from India to New York via London and within 2 years of the inception of its first Boeing aircraft, the airline becomes world’s first all jet airline service provider in the world. The company than started its affordable and low cost airline service in 2005 which is known as air India express. This subsidiary of the airline currently operation approximately 100 flights in one week in and across various cities of India. The airline currently has 17 Boeing 737-800 aircrafts and 4 other aircrafts in dry lease. In the year 2007 air India was merged with Indian airline and formed National Aviation Corporation of India.
