The cha cha is a Cuban dance origin. This type of dance is danced to a particular music that was introduced by Enrique Jorrin in 1953. The rhythm of the music was developed from the danzon by a syncopation of the 4th beat. It is one of the most popular dances of the social Latin-American. The dance itself is very lively and flirtatious and of course, full or energy and passion. The Characteristics of Cha Cha A vibrant, flamboyant and playful dance, the feel of the cha cha provides it with a unique sense of fun for dancers all throughout the world. this certain dance requires small steps and a lot of hip motion, which simply means that if you’re good with making those hips move, you’ll be perfect at this. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you should be great at hip movement because anyone can learn to dance the cha cha, you just earn a huge advantage if you’re great at hip movement. This is dances in 4/4 time, which is why it needs small steps and hip motion. The fourth beat is divided into two, which gives it the characteristic 2, 3, 4 & 1 rhythm. Hence, five steps are danced to 4 beats as in the “One, two, cha cha cha” rhythm. The Action of Cha Cha In order for you to dance Cha Cha just like the professionals do, you should master the ‘Cuban Motion’, the characteristic Latin doy action. This is simply a distinctive way in which your hips move up and down. The hip movements usually come with the bending and straightening the knees in which as one knee bends or straightens, the same hip drops or raises. The basic components of this dance are triple steps and rock steps. Quick, small steps should be maintained throughout the dance. The distinctive movements of the hips result from the constant bending and straightening of the knees. Dancers should synchronize every movement as they dance parallel to one another. Distinctive Cha Cha Steps Since the Cha Cha is very similar to Mambo and Rumba, there are several steps that coincide with the steps of these dances. The main difference between the dances is that the “slow” steps of the Rumba and the Mambo are replaced with a triple step in the Cha Cha. Basic Cha Cha Steps Cha Cha Chasse – this is the foundation for all Cha Cha steps, and when you’ve got this the whole dance will be such a breeze. This is a linear dance and so the Chasse should always take place on a straight line and not rotate in either direction. The Fan – this is named for the dance position that is accomplished at the end of the figure. It is an open position where a man and lady are positioned perpendicular to each other, the lady on the left side of the man with a LH-RH hold. In order to achieve this position, the man will lead the lady to his left side during the second hand of a Closed Basic Movement. He leads this by turning the lady to her left on step 6, releasing his right hand from her back, increasing tone in left arm, and then extending the arm to side with slight pressure over steps 8-10. The Hockey Stick – this dance move begins from the Fan position. Here, ladies will retrace their steps from the Open Hip Twist into Fan. On the other hand, guys will lead the lady and assist her movements.
