Statistics show that more than a million Australians are driving new cars today. There is a sharp rise in new cars for sale showing a surge of 10 per cent. It seems the recent economic recession is not having any negative impact on new cars Australia. Sales of imported cars are topping the sales charts. The Mazda3 small car has become the star of the show, stepping over the native Holden Commodore. The last few months have seen Toyota Corolla giving a further blow to the Commodore, pushing it off the podium. For the first time Commodore failed to make it to the top three since the early 1900s. Trends reveal that imported new cars for sale are here to rule. Another challenge for the top sales spot is Toyota HiLux that shared the limelight with Mazda3 three times. The last three months have seen an amazing performance in sales by Mazda3 that also became the first import-only brand to top the sales. Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon have failed to make their place among the new cars Australia , with their sales figures dropping to a dismal low. Toyota Camry is seen as another rival for Commodore and local made car sales have dropped to 12.5 % from 25 %. Holden and Ford are trying to regain lost battlegrounds by introducing new models that are set to arrive in showrooms soon. The largest selling brand for the 10th year is Toyota with all-time record sales. Holden has managed to remain at number two but is finding it difficult to hold on to the position because of the competition. Hyundai and Mazda seem to be the big players among new cars Australia squeezing other competition out of the picture. Ford has been pushed to the fifth place with the lowest sale offers even on discounted prices. Focus small car from Ford made it to the top 10, but it is imported from Thailand. It was supposed to be built in Australia but now it is imported but with no tariffs, as per the Free Trade Agreement. Nissan has managed to give the best figures for new cars for sale in Australia. Mitsubishi, a former conventional challenger, too lost ground slowly. Among the new cars for sale, it is the small cars that remain the number one choice among buyers. Models like Holden Astra, Nissan Pulsar and Mitsubishi Magna have disappeared from the showrooms. The market trends have seen a shift from the large cars to the smaller ones for the Australian customer. This trend has hit the local car industry the most. The traditional family sized cars have remained a favorite and on the bestsellers’ list.
