Bumper hitches are designed to give you the chance to tow trailers, boats, RVs among other attachments or cargo to your vehicle. A bumper hitch makes it much safer and will pull much more weight compared to ball hitches on a bumper. Bumper hitch installation does not have to be rocket science given that you have the necessary tools for the process. With a little mechanical experience you can do it in less than an hour, but if you aren’t sure about how that works you, this is where the area mechanic comes in. Below are some of the factors you need to consider for an effective bumper hitch installation: • Position the jack below the vehicle frame using it to lift it up. Place a jack stand underneath the frame on both sides of the vehicle. Carefully remove the jack so as to ensure that the vehicle frame rests on the jack stands. If your vehicle has a high raised arrangement, then you do not require the lift. • Place the center of the bumper and hold up the hitch to it. Use a marker to mark the area to be drilled, in the same position as those on the hitch where the clamps are to be fitted, that is through the base where they will be attached. • Drill on the areas that were marked out by the use of a small drill bit. Drill sizable holes at the center of the marks. Position the hitch up to them just to ensure that they are in the right place. Use a larger bit to make bigger holes that are need for hitch hardware. • Install the hitch using the suggested hardware. Ensure that all the nuts and bolts are tightened with use of a recommended wrench. Use a wrench on each of the bolts and nuts when tightening, just to be sure that the bolt will not turn when the nut is being tightened. • Position the jack under the vehicle; carefully jack it up slightly to release the jack stand. Gradually release the jack to ensure that the vehicle rests on the ground again. However, it is also important to note that you should never get under the vehicle when the only thing holding the vehicle up is a jack. Use a jack stands to raise and hold the weight of the vehicle. There is a small ring on the jack that can malfunction, which may cause the jack and vehicle to fall, with the results being fatal.
