Health
Being healthy does not necessarily mean being free from diseases or infirmities. A healthy person is defined as someone who is complete in his physical, mental and even social well being. There are many factors that would contribute to the health of an individual. The human body needs numerous vitamins and nutrients to sustain its growth. A common and very beneficial nutrient is protein. This article will discuss the importance of this nutrient on the body and its main sources.

Proteins are fundamental nutrients for the body of a human being. They are one of the body tissue’s building blocks and are composed of amino acids linked by peptide bonds. Proteins are vital for the growth and development of the human body. Like water, their molecules are very abundant in the body and can be found in virtually all cells of the body. They are its major structural units. Through digestion, they are broken down into amino acids with the help of proteases.

Proteins play an important role in exercises. They are considered one of the secrets of an athlete’s success in sports. As building blocks of proteins, amino acids are taken for muscle and tissue building and repair of damaged tissues. Usually, proteins provide only a little fuel source in exercising because they are only used when resources of carbohydrates and lipid are low.

There are a lot of sources of this nutrient in the market. The optimal combination of its sources however, will depend on the region, accessibility, type of amino acid and nutrition balance. Even so, the good thing is that they can be purchased easily today. The major sources of this nutrient will be detailed below.

A very obvious source of protein is seafood because of their low fat content. Seafood is known to have docosahexaenoic acid and omega-3’s which have been proven to enhance the appearance of skin, hair, eyes, and nails. Also, omega-3’s aid in the regulation of blood clotting, blood vessel dilation, heart disease prevention and alleviation of pains associated with arthritis. Fishes contain the least fat compared to other meats like pork, chicken, turkey and beef.

Another source is poultry meat. Both white-meat and dark-meat contain considerable amounts of protein good for the body. The white-meat, however, contains more calories than the dark-meat, making it more preferable by athletes or bodybuilders.

Dairy foods like cheese, milk and yogurt are also good source. Aside from the fact of being exceptional sources of the nutrient, they are also good sources of calcium and vitamin D.

Eggs can also be considered as not only excellent but practical sources of this nutrient. Anyone can purchase eggs with just a small amount of money yet still enjoy the benefits of proteins.

Another source is beans. A one-half cup of this source is already equal one ounce of broiler steak as far as protein content is concerned. Furthermore, beans are abundant in fiber so the individuals can stay healthy.

Last but definitely not the least is protein supplements. These sources are often used by athletes, bodybuilders, dieters and hardgainers. Compared to other sources, supplements may entail some cost but the results can be very rewarding. These supplements can be purchased at DNC Supplements in Tampa, FL.
