On an average, around 70,000 foreign nationals enter the United States every day. More than 85% of them are non-immigrants arriving in the country as tourists, students, foreign workers or business visitors. Then, there are around 3% foreigners who are refugees or immigrants who are invited by the U.S. for becoming permanent residents. The remaining, over 5,000 of these foreigners, are illegal aliens. Almost 80% of these unlawful immigrants are detained daily, with most of the arrests taking place on the border with Mexico. However, the remaining 1,000 or so escape detection or move from legal states to other states where immigrants are not allowed. Concerns about some type of immigrants, such as contract workers led to qualitative limitations on immigration, by as early as the 19th century. However, quantitative restrictions came into force during the first quarter of the 20th century. FAIR came into existence several decades ago with the goal of controlling the growth in population due to immigration. The organization directly calls for placing a temporary plug on immigration to allow the Americans and the immigrants to adapt to each other. FAIR suggests that during the waiting period, minimal amount of immigration can be allowed, only among relatives. At the other end is the Wall Street Journal that recommends an amendment to the constitution to open the borders. The business newspaper carries editorials claiming that immigration offers many economic benefits, as it helps increase the number of consumers and workers. Then, there are organizations that prefer immigration from specific regions or countries. Craig Seldin is a legal expert who has deep knowledge about immigration laws and has come to become an authority in the field.
