Albufeira is an extremely popular Portuguese holiday destination, and when you get off the plane in Faro the chances are you will want to get there as fast as possible. What you will therefore be expecting is a fast and smooth transfer from Faro airport to Albufeira. Here are a few tips that might help you achieve that and then to enjoy your holiday on this beautiful part of the Portuguese coast. Plan your transfer ahead From Faro airport to Albufeira is only about 45 kilometres or so and perhaps a transfer time of roughly 40 minutes. You won’t want to spend hours in the airport upon arrival trying to sort out your transfer, so booking ahead online might be sensible. Research your hotel thoroughly This is a beautiful and popular resort but it has both quieter and much more commercialised areas. If you like to be in the thick of the action, or to the contrary, somewhere quieter and more sedate, you won’t want a shock upon arrival at your hotel. So, before booking, make sure you have verified what any brochures are telling you by independent research on the Internet. Think about your holiday dates As with just about any southern European destination with beautiful beaches, this resort can be busy during the peak six or eight week summer period of the school holidays. The beaches are big and beautiful but if you want lots of space to yourself and quiet tranquillity by the sea, you may wish to travel outside of those weeks if at all possible. Explore the old town The Strip is a bustling and frenetic centre of restaurants and nightlife activity in the newer part of the town. It’s perfectly possible to have a fantastic holiday here based around the beach, your hotel, the pool and The Strip. Nevertheless, the old town is a fascinating maze of Moorish-influenced tiny streets and ancient buildings that have some quieter dining and entertainment opportunities. It’s well worth a visit. Be aware of the sun This piece of advice has been given constantly since the 1950s to British holidaymakers heading south, but is still all too often ignored. Remember, sea breezes can be deceptive and heading straight from your Faro airport to Albufeira transfer into extensive sunbathing is a recipe for burns and painful holidays. Take it easy to begin with and use plenty of sun block! Remember your health cover Wherever you are, injuries and ill health are always a possibility. Make sure you have at least a reciprocal health cover card (EHIC) that is free from the NHS. It might also be advisable to have some form of other more extensive holiday health insurance in order to cover things such as potential medical repatriations. Plan ahead for unusual luggage requirements Just turning up unexpectedly for your Faro airport to Albufeira transfer with very large or awkwardly sized pieces of luggage is likely to be a recipe for both severe delay and significant additional cost. If you need to do so, make sure that you have arranged your transfer ahead of time and notified the people concerned of exactly what you will be bringing with you. You won’t want to start your holiday with an undignified squabble at the airport when someone refuses to try and squeeze your outsized item of luggage into their vehicle!
