Reassemble waste and create assemblage art

Assemblage art makes use of a large variety of non-organic and organic materials to create three-dimensional art. Assemblage artists will more often than not, use totally unrelated objects and create found object art; they generally use material that would otherwise be considered to be waste items. This art form is related to collage and assemblages can include images that have been created on any flat surface or paper. In a way it is also related to sculpture due to its three-dimensional aspect. There are various forms of assemblages and all are made using the same technique but the end result could vary dramatically.

Cabinet assemblage

Wooden cabinets can be built using art assemblage. You can use discarded cabinets or cupboards, spruce them up with a theme of your choice and create an assemblage that is stunning and something that no one can acquire in any conventional store. Prominent assemblage artists create art around themes such as natural history and various ancient civilizations. Once you have thought of a theme you can check amongst the objects you have found and create a cabinet assemblage. Self-Portrait assemblage

While creating this particular kind of assemblage, you will be representing a segment of your own life. Use images that are significant to your life, background and those that hold meaning to you. You can use old toys, letters and other objects that you have found or used at some point of time. Arrange them in a manner that satisfies you; get a composition that gels well with the central theme and the go about building your personal assemblage.

Pocket shrines

These are created within small containers like matchboxes or little tins. They need not have tradition or sacred connotations attached to them but will definitely have a theme. A pocket shrine can celebrate some aspect of life that is of significance to you, some earth element that you hold a fascination for, a book that you have read or a person you admire. Again, the theme is important and your creation has to depict it accurately. You can decorate the external surface of the container with any medium you desire such as found object art, paint or collage and the inside of the little container will hold the three-dimensional assemblage

You can solder small metal objects and form assemblage jewelry pieces. For these you would need a flux, soldering iron, small pieces of metal, and a roll of solder, any old jewelry pieces and metal bric-a-bracs and earring wires that are lying around. This is an excellent way of putting single earrings to good use. Tiny charms and old watch parts are all no more throw-away items but components for assemblage art. Arrange all the pieces artistically, use metal glue or solder whenever you need to. Once you are done with the assemblage, clean it with alcohol and the piece will be complete.

Assemblage art is a very creative art form and all you need is an artistic touch and the ability to visualize how things will look when they are put together.
