Mace is an insomnia fighting herb known to cause drowsiness. It is scientifically known as Myristica fragrans. This herb when taken in moderation can ease a patient suffering from nausea, vomiting, flatulence or diarrhea. Mace oil has a calming effect on the body and relaxes the mind. This brownish yellow oil blends well with geranium oil, bay leaf, clary sage, oak moss, neroli, orange, rosemary and peru balsam oil. The chemical constituents of mace oil are monoterpene hydrocarbon, oxygenated monoterpene, monoterpene alcohol, monoterpene esters, organic acid etc. An interesting fact about mace oil that is not known to many is that it is incredibly similar to Nutmeg. The similarity is both chemical as well as botanical. It has been put forward through various researches done by experts that, the myristicum in mace might be able to contradict the potentially carcinogenic effects of safrole. This perennial Indonesian aromatic plant is not advised for pregnant women as it may have unwarranted side effects. Also, it should never be orally consumed. It has to always be applied as per the instructions of a good therapist or a doctor. One must always consult genuine aromatherapy practitioners to understand the use, benefits and side-effects of essential oils before putting them to use. A very vital point to remember while buying this oil is that its genuineness must be checked. There are a number of fraudulent traders in the market who sell low quality mace oils that have the potential to cause harm.
