In the last few years, Traditional publishing companies always to make digital edition of their magazine and newspaper. Sometimes, we can see the digital editions sold well than printed versions. However, it is difficult to develop Android and iOS apps that compatible with all different screen devices. Some small publishers do not believe that the development and maintenance of a dedicated application is economical. Now Windows 8 App Building Program that developed by Microsoft and NewspaperDirect has solved this problem for magazine and newspaper publishers. “The growth in the popularity of Windows 8 reflects the shift in how people want to experience content across devices. Brands are already starting to get up close and personal with audiences in real time, on a global scale. NewspaperDirect, a leader in magazine and newspaper applications, and the launch of their Windows 8 app platform, will provide a platform for publishers to reach and engage their audience in compelling ways, and will provide consumers with a range of quality, brand name applications.” Shane Davies, Director, Cloud Services Providers & Top Consumer Brands, Microsoft Canada. The new application allows publishers to keep and develop their own native Windows 8 application. It contains the same type of technology that PressReader uses by simplifying XML and graphic heavy content, publishers will be able to get a copy of their traditional print version, and transfer them to another more friendly format for e-readers and tablets. User can click on the title of each article, can remove unnecessary data, and to provide users with the use of words. This is very useful for increasing the font size, and even supporting the reading out function. By using the new program, publishers will not have to go it alone. They can receive: A native, branded and optimized Windows 8 application using PressReader for Windows 8 baseline; get preferential market opportunities in the Windows (app) Store; get opportunities of advertising placement in Windows Store. The process will cost less. By removing the printers out of the equation it means that the costs are reduced. Printing and binding is no longer something to worry about when trying to publish. Costs are further reduced when it comes to delivery. The article or book is readily available to anyone with internet access. The digital publishing tool will give more opportunities to most small town publishers and emerging magazine and newspaper companies, of course, some e magazine software can let this job become more easily. Publishers could benefit from these new advanced technology tools.
