In Bob We Trust is the latest film from Ghost Pictures, the production company helmed by Richard Lowenstein, Lynn Maree Milburn and Andrew de Groot. These longtime collaborators have made a great quantity of excellent work and below you will find a digest of some of the aspects of the film industry in Australia that have seen films like IN BOB WE TRUST emerge. Let’s be clear about one thing: DESIRE is not enough. Everyone wants to have a well paid, sexy job, working in Special FX or Directing, but most of the jobs in the film industry are skills and talent specific- NOT EVERYONE CAN DIRECT, not everyone can record sound fabulously, even though you know how to turn on the microphone and watch levels: I love to swim and I do it everyday, but I will never be Ian Thorpe. There is such a thing as Natural Born Talent, that conjunction of both desire, application and physical realities that works in quite narrow areas, and the same applies for film. You might love movies but maybe you are not destined to make them, maybe you are destined to write about them, or indeed to write the scripts for them or to find the audience for them by writing about them or by translating the scripts sensitively into a another language so that when the Yugloslav version of Terminator 6 comes out, it doesn’t sound ridiculous because the words HASTA LA VISTA, BABY! Have been mistranslated and the actor now says the Yugloslav words for “Enjoy looking at distance, younger than three years old child” Luckily, with a film like IN BOB WE TRUST, that kind of thing won’t be a problem as the producers are driven people with strong independent voices. A film like In Bob We Trust doesn’t get made any other way. In Bob We Trust was produced by Richard Lowenstein, directed by Lynn Maree Milburn and will premiere at the Melbourne Film Festival in 2013. Richard Lowenstein’s previous films include Strikebound, Dogs in Space, He Died with a Felafel In His Hand and as producer, John Safran vs God (a TV series) and In Bob We Trust, a documentary about the renegade Catholic priest Father Bob Mackay from South Melbourne Australia.
