Sri Lanka, the paradise of the Indian Ocean has a wide variety of things to see from creations done during pre historic ages to modern structures. Habarana is one of the best places to experience these giant mammals in their natural habitats. Located two hundred and ten kilometres north east from Colombo, this is the passage of the massive herds of wild elephants. Most elephant lovers gather here to witness these beautiful creatures. One main activity that can be done in this area is to enjoy an elephant back safari. The best time to go on these safaris is during the mid year; from March to June. Since the rides include elephants wading or swimming through huge irrigation reservoirs the water level offers perfect conditions during this time. Before March the water levels are too high and around August the levels get very low and will not be as much as fun as it would normally be. Apart from the route in the water, the safari takes place on land through jungles, villages, swamps, paths and main roads as well.
