Sri Lanka, the paradise of the Indian Ocean has a wide variety of things to see from creations done during pre historic ages to modern structures. Apart from the manmade beauties, the variety of natural wonders within the country is immense. The beautiful ocean around the island attracts a majority of tourists to the country. The blue whales and dolphins that come towards the shore are amazing to watch. Lush green hills with waterfalls are refreshing and mind-blowing. The scene of women plucking tea on these mountains is always picture perfect. Apart from these, the varieties of wildlife in the country are wide and interesting to watch. From the ancient days elephants have represented the culture of Sri Lanka. Ancient kings rode these majestic creatures even during battles. While the British ruled the country, elephant hunting was a greatly admired sport which resulted in the reduction of the elephant population in huge numbers in the country. Now, there are elephant sanctuaries and orphanages created to protect these amazing creatures of the wild. Habarana is one of the best places to experience these giant mammals in their natural habitats. Located two hundred and ten kilometres north east from Colombo, this is the passage of the massive herds of wild elephants. Most elephant lovers gather here to witness these beautiful creatures. One main activity that can be done in this area is to enjoy an elephant back safari. The best time to go on these safaris is during the mid year; from March to June. Since the rides include elephants wading or swimming through huge irrigation reservoirs the water level offers perfect conditions during this time. Before March the water levels are too high and around August the levels get very low and will not be as much as fun as it would normally be. Apart from the route in the water, the safari takes place on land through jungles, villages, swamps, paths and main roads as well. Chaaya Village Habarana is one place you can relax after going on a majestic safari ride. This hotel gives easy access to elephant safaris rather than a Dambulla hotel or a hotel Sigiriya. The natural environment of the hotel is amazingly relaxing, a perfect getaway from the busy life of the city! Google+
