CARROLL COUNTY, VA -- A Carroll County Supervisor has left a business he used to co-ownwith his brother, following a conflict of interest investigation . In a statement on Wednesday, May 16th, Josh Hendrick wrote he willresign as vice-president of Nehemiah Engineering, Inc., which is anengineering firm. On Tuesday, Franklin County Commonwealth'sAttorney Timothy Allen ruled that Hendrick had a conflict of interest being on both the Board of Supervisors, while working for theengineering company, because the company has contracts with thecounty. Hendrick himself received more than $10,000 per year from thecompany. Hendrick's full statement: From the opinion of Commonwealth Attorney Timothy Allen, it is aconflict for myself to continue employment with NehemiahEngineering, Inc. (NEI) and serve on the Board of Supervisors (BOS)while NEI holds an inspection services contract with the PublicService Authority (PSA). NEI and myself have acted in good faith that a conflict was notpresent and would not have proceeded if I had believed thesituation was a conflict of interest. My stance and good faith wasbased upon legal counsel, including the County Attorney, JimCornwell. With the issuance of Mr. Allen's opinion, it is the best interestof the County, NEI, and myself for me to resign as Vice Presidentof NEI, effective immediately. My sincerest apologies to allparties involved for the undesired work and attention thissituation has brought. I would like to thank Mr. Nathan Lyons, Mr.Timothy Allen, and Mr. Joe Daniels Jr., and their respectivestaffs, for their work on this matter. I would also like to thankthe PSA for their patience and understanding during this time. I especially want to thank the displaced employees of NEI for yourunderstanding and support. I am truly sorry that my involvement inlocal government has caused your lives to be disrupted. I respect the position of Mr. Timothy Allen and the opinion that hehas issued on this situation. However, since my actions were ingood faith and the contract in question was awarded to NEI prior tomyself taking office on the BOS, I intend to seek an appeal to theAttorney General. I trust my resignation from NEI will allow all functions to remitto their prior states. Joshua Hendrick.
