Wall fountains can create a beautiful addition to any indoor design or outdoor landscape. Since water is consistently running through the fountain, algae and buildup can easily develop from the consistent moisture on the fountain. By following a few simple steps you can keep the fountain looking its best. Type of Water Most people think that any type of water will work for the fountain, including tap water or water from the garden hose. While these are usable, most tap water can contain hard water levels as well as calcium deposits and other elements that can grow algae quickly. Distilled water is the best type to use in a wall fountain, as it contains no additives or elements that can develop buildup on the fountain. Chemical Treatments If you do not wish to use distilled water, or have a very large wall fountain that requires a lot of water, there are a few products on the market that will clear the chemicals from normal tap water. No More White Scale is a liquid treatment that can be poured into the fountain, keeping it clean and preventing algae growth. Fountain Fresh and Fountain Block are two elements that can be added to fountains to eliminate green water and cloudy water, plus break apart algae that has built on the fountain wall. There are also algae blocking products designed to break up algae on fountain slate walls, and can be reapplied as needed when algae develops. These types of products can be purchased at most home improvement stores, gardening stores and even some pet stores (those which sell aquarium supplies). These stores will also have a variety of other chemical treatments that will work to prevent mold and mildew, water discoloration or cloudiness, as well as any other problems that may arise with the wall fountain. Clean Regularly Cleaning the fountain regularly, and starting over with fresh, clear water is sometimes required as well. Two to three times per year is recommended, or clean as often as you wish depending on the appearance of your wall fountain. First, clear out all of the water by using a water pump or shop vac (available at all home improvement stores and most rental facilities). Unplug all parts, and wash the fountain with a simple solution of water and liquid dish soap. This will work for any type of fountain, keeping the parts clean and functioning at their best. Use a long brush to get into tubing that is not easily accessible, and an old toothbrush or small brush to get into cracks and crevices of the fountain. Replenish with fresh water, and the fountain will look like new. Finally, let me have a conclusion.
