Having a tile or laminate floor in the basement is great as it gives the area a cozier feeling. However before placing tiles or laminate on your basement floor you should make sure that the concrete surface underneath is smooth and even. If the concrete floor of the basement is uneven it will ruin the placement of the tiles or laminate. However leveling the floor can be time consuming and hard if it is not done properly. If you have never done it before keep on reading because I have written a step-by-step tutorial which you can find useful. If you are not much of a builder you should consider hiring builders in London to level your basement floor for you. When it comes to professional builders London has a wide range of companies which will execute a meticulous job. On the other hand if you have good building skills here is what you should do: - Begin by emptying the basement so that you can clean the floor carefully. Thus you will be able to remove the dirt, dust and debris that have accumulated since you have last cleaned your basement.
- Now that your floor is clean check for holes and cracks. It is very important that you find and fill in all the holes and cracks as this will prevent the accumulation of moisture and therefore will eliminate any potential moisture related damages to your floor. Fill the cracks and holes with concrete caulk. To apply the substance use a caulking gun.
- Next, seal the perimeter of your floor with expansion tape. You should apply the tape on the edges where the floor meets the walls. It will both level the compound and strengthen the new surface of the floor.
- Now, get a large bucket and pour in it the self-levelling material. Mix the material by following the instructions which are written on the packaging of the self-leveling material. Generally you will have to mix the self-levelling material with water and stir it carefully until it reaches the required consistency. Once that the mixture is ready pour it as evenly as possible in straight lines on your basement floor.
- End the levelling process by using a concrete towel to remove any inconsistencies in the self-leveling material. Next spread the mixture evenly let it dry for several days. During these days forbid any access to the basement.
Following these steps will help you do the levelling of your basement floor easily, so that installing laminate or tiles could be a smooth and less time-consuming process.
