Brick tiles can be used sealed or unsealed around a fireplace. These tiles are slightly more adept at holding and transmitting heat from the fireplace than other tiles, such as stone and marble. Use caution when touching bricks that are in direct or close contact with fireplace flames. Marble is a hard, naturally occurring material that is harvested from the ground and cut into different shapes and sizes to be used in several different kinds of construction, including fireplace tiles. These tiles are heat resistant and are generally used after having been sealed to prevent environmental damage from water and general wear. Marble tiles are heat resistant and can be used anywhere in the surrounding area of a fireplace, including both on the wall and in the surrounding flooring as well as directly in the fireplace itself.
