The Quinoa Connection, The Andean Job, and The Spy from Altiplano - Is Quinoa Converting Celebs? People don't stop talking about super foods these days. The pattern is getting predictable - find an ingredient with a big list of nutrients; Stir in a number of nutritional buzzwords making it sound impressive and the next most sensible thing after the sun; Throw in a couple of celebrities who swear by it and voila! You’ve got a super food. Now just have the popular restaurants spread the goodness that will soon turn this fad into a culture. Is that now happening on the quinoa front? Depending on the simple factor of super food hype, quinoa definitely wins! It’s incredibly high in protein, fibre, and other nutrients (manganese, zinc, potassium and calcium). Moreover, it’s also delicious. Its subtle and versatile texture blends in amicably with other ingredients of a salad, a main entrée or a dessert. Like every other super-food it has now also reached a threshold stage where the net is inundated with many masterchefs doling out quinoa recipes by the dozen. There are sites like this one that are obsessed with quinoa, all spreading the quinoa word around. And it seems that the only missing link - celebrities - are also taking to quinoa quite eagerly. One of the foremost on the bandwagon is Jennifer Aniston. At the age of 44, Aniston has age defying looks that would make many a young adult go weak in their knees. In 2011, she introduced her favourite quinoa salad recipe in 'Loukoumi's Celebrity Cookbook featuring Favorite Childhood Recipes by Over 50 Celebrities' by Nick Katsoris. For the salad, she mixed quinoa with avocados, parsley, cucumbers and tomatoes, seasoning it with only olive oil, salt & pepper. The detailed recipe may be found here. She mentioned that “This is a really simple salad, but so delicious, and all these beautiful, healthy ingredients, make it one of my personal favorites." Aniston is not alone, not even remotely. Gwyneth Paltrow, another 41 year old goes ga-ga over quinoa in her latest cookbook. The Iron Man actress even has recipes for left-over quinoa in her cookbook. And then there is international pop icon Katy Perry who recently revealed in an interview that when she is travelling, she likes "a light soup, a piece of grilled chicken and some quinoa with grilled asparagus for dinner." The celebrity love for quinoa goes beyond celebrities and is propagated by celebrity trainers as well. Madonna is renowned for her body and her fitness regime. At the age of 55, she has age-defying looks. Her trainer Nicole Winhoffer, who has recently released a couple of fitness DVDs swears by quinoa. According to her tofu, vegetables, and whole grain products like quinoa and brown rice should be a part of the diet. Another celebrity nutritionist is Cynthia Pasquella who has worked with Hollywood's finest, including Sandra Bullock and Blake Lively. According to her, celebrities with their busy life, usually have little or no time for learning new things. Her primary goal with her clients is to keep them informed on how they can maintain good health and not spend all their time beautifying themselves and splurging all their earnings on things that will not really last. Cynthia's Power-up quinoa salad recipe may be found here. It's not only the damsels who are taking to quinoa. Ricky Martin, who recently turned vegetarian, recently tweeted out pictures of his all-vegetarian dinner which consisted of, amongst other things, quinoa!
