The United Kingdom and France are two of the world’s most popular tourist destinations. In 2004, the UK registered over 27 million foreign tourists whereas France, in 2011, registered a staggering 79 and a half million foreign tourists. The numbers get bigger every year, so we suggest that one quickly book their France holidays and UK tours before it becomes impossible simply due to sheer overload. UK In UK, one could either go fishing in Loch Lomond, Britain’s largest lake or hop on a mountain bike and cycle their way through the Moor to Sea Cycle Route, definitely the most scenic of its kind in Britain, if not the world. There is also Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland, where Roman guards once stood to protect the world’s mightiest empire from invasion and the Stonehenge in England, one of UK’s most treasured archaeological finds. Pembrokeshire in south-western Wales proudly boasts one of the UKs most beautiful coastlines, which can be explored either by boat or by climbing up and across its steep cliffs. For adventurers, there are the massive cave formations of Brecon Beacons National Park to go spelunking in and hang-gliding to be experienced on the slopes of South Downs National Park. France The Louvre, along with the Eiffel Tower, is one of France’s most popular monuments. An incongruent bit of classical architecture when compared to its surroundings, The Louvre is the world’s most visited museum, housing the absolute best of French art across several curatorial divisions. The Eiffel Tower, built in 1889, is today one of the world’s most recognized structures, at par with the Statue of Liberty in the USA (which, coincidentally, was also built by the French). A holiday in France would not be complete without sampling the local cuisine, which features some of the world’s best and most expensive wines and cheeses. French food is now popular around the world, offering such classical dishes such as croissants, bouillabaisse, coq au vin, quiche and the rustic ratatouille. Come hungry, and leave satisfied! There are, of course, several other activities to keep the curious tourist busy in both the UK and France. And if you aren’t a curious tourist already, you can be sure that both countries will change that about you. With both countries meticulously developing their tourist infrastructure to make one’s visit all the more convenient, the trend of France holidays and UK tours are here to stay. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Ninad Chaudhari works as a Web UI Designer / Developer with Cox & Kings.
