Beijing, May 31 (People's Daily Online) The activity of A seriesof talks by ASEAN ambassadors to China was launched at BeijingForeign Studies University (BFSU) on May 29. The event was jointlysponsored and organized by China-ASEAN Center and BFSU. H.E. Mr. Imron Cotan, Indonesian Ambassador to China was the firstspeaker for the series of talks by ASEAN ambassadors to China. Ambassador Imron Cotan said in his speech that China is a strategicand reliable partner of Indonesia. It is in the best interest ofIndonesia and ASEAN countries to see China continue to develop,grow and excel into the future. ASEAN countries including Indonesiaare also a market for China to reckon with, because as a wholeASEAN countries have more or less 600 million people, a huge marketfor China to explore. He welcomes Chinese businessmen to sell theirproducts there. He also underlined that "We need to combine all our effortsnot only to overcome challenges but also to continue to progressinto the future, to contribute to the stability, prosperity andpeace in this region as well as in the world". In her opening remarks, Prof. Zhong Meisun, vice President of BFSUintroduced that BFSU is the oldest university in China on foreignlanguage teaching, and has the largest variety of languageeducation in China. Over the past seven decades, it has expanded toteach 54 foreign languages; among them are seven official languagesof the ASEAN countries, including Indonesian. The increase in thenumber of language programs has been supported by a growth ofcountry and area studies. The Indonesian Center was opened in lateMarch, 2012. More than 400 graduates of BFSU have become China'sambassadors to other countries. Ma Mingqiang, Secretary-General of China-ASEAN Center (ACC) made abrief introduction of the Center and the talk series. ACC is aninter-governmental organization, a one-stop information andactivities center to promote China-ASEAN cooperation in trade,investment, education, culture and tourism. The ACC talk series isone of the activities organized by the center to enhance the mutualunderstanding between the people and among peoples of China andASEAN member states.
