Which skills are important In schools today we learn how to behave in our life, in our society, in our world. It is vital that we learn to get along and frankly our schooling system is botching the job bigtime. With bullying still being a major problem at most educational facilities and the whole system of competition being the motor with which we try to motivate our young people it seems like instead of being geared towards creating good citizens, it seems we're creating victims and attackers instead of peaceful beings. This is where from preschool on we are failing our children and this is why schools like Pre School in Hyderabad are going to be the way of the future. The emphasis of most schools is on the curriculum of writing, reading and arithmetic. The basics of these skills can be learned in 60 hours or less by a child who is ready for them. The rest of the time should be spent on waiting for the child to be ready, play, social skills and suchlike. In most institutions children are however pressed into learning something that they are not ready for, on the false premise that it's never to early to get a head start. Then when they fail at the task they are not ready for, we point to the child and say it is slow, dyslectic or failing. The message to the child is: 'You're not good enough'. This breeds discontent in the child. The second way we fail to teach our children to respect each other and behave socially is by literally pitting them against each other. We're taught that an A is good and an F isn't and rather than focussing on what's really important (that a child eventually learns to read, write and calculate) we focus on grading them, failing them. We are literally failing our children when we fail them. Social skills are the most important for the future Even in today's marketplace but even more so in the future it's social skills that are going to determine a child's succes. Bullying is on it's way out as a way of life, even though the bankers that bully people out of their houses don't seem to realize it yet. Accross the globe people are uniting in small groups that help each other out. Even in the US, traditionally one of the most competitive countries in the world, people are starting to realize that helping others out and being helped is not only the right thing to do, it's also a way to be more succesful. One and one is three, is the new math. When two people get together to work together, to co-create, magic happens. Their output is much larger and much more varied than when they just work each on their own task. Science has shown that when you reward people personally for any knowledgeble type of work, the quality goes down whereas if you challenge people to work together and reward them as a group for it, the quality of the work goes up. Dramatically. Synergy is the new skill on the block and it's replacing reading, writing and arithmetic in the curriculum. The classics can be learned in a much shorter amount of time if you respect the childs needs and wants. When it's ready it will learn the skill because it's fun and challenging to do so. Synergy is something that children will generally also come by almost automatically, unless they are actively steered away from it by adults as our educational systems are prone to do. So this is why Rockwell International School is such a step up from the norm in much of todays educational facilities
