Ganpatipule, a tiny city, is in the Ratnagiri District in state of Maharashtra. According to a legend, LordGanpatigot irritated to a lady's remark and moved one or two distance away from Gule, which was His original abode. The movement of one or two distance is known as 'pule ' in Marathi and therefore came the name Ganpatipule. The city has a four hundred year old statue of Ganpati which is said to have self- made from the ground. Jaigad lighthouse was built in the year 1832 and is found in the western part of Jaigad Fort. The lighthouse is 180 years of age and is open to the general public 6 days each week, except Sundays. The climate of the town of Ganpatipule is moderate. The temperature in summer goes from twenty-two to forty degree Celsius. The winter temperature drops from twelve to 32 degrees Celsius. The city of Ganpatipule is well attached to the town of Ratnagiri by road. Ratnagiri has an aeroport and a train line station which connects it to major Indian towns. It lies roughly thirty km from Ratnagiri and the journey by road takes around an hour. Vehicles and buses are also available for a comfy journey.
