The miniscule tear drop formed island in the Indian sea has become the most recent hotspot for travelers. After the end of the thirty years civil war, and all of the travel advisories lifted, visitors just cannot bear to wait to head out to the glamorous island of Sri Lanka. The friendly and hospitable folk of Sri Lanka, in their turn, with hands folded and 'Ayobowan' on their lips are prepared to make your vacation the most notable you have had. Tourism in Sri Lanka can, broadly, be split into 3 classes. The beaches, the towns of cultural, historic and spiritual seriousness and last but certainly not the least, the nature reserves. Don't be conned by the scale of the country. The small island is rich with places to go visit from all of these 3 classes. Join me as I untangle the fascinations of Sri Lanka. The busy town of Colombo is the biggest in Sri Lanka. It is about an hour's drive from the Bandarnaike world aeroport. Just like other urban towns, Colombo is a center of activity. There are several places worth seeing. It being a coastal city, you can enjoy inspiring views of the sea with the groups that head to Galle Face greens in the evening. If deserted beaches are what you are after, then you can head to other places, which shall figure later in my list. Aside from that, you may visit the Nation's museum, the Nation's zoological gardens, and the Autonomy square which was built to mark Sri Lanka's liberty from the Brit . You can shop your heart out at Imposing Town, Freedom square or Odel. It is simple to commute round the town, with buses, radio taxis and auto rickshaws called tuk-tuks hereabouts, freely available. Sri Lanka is not just about beaches. If you travel inland there are several treasures to be uncovered. If you're keen on the colder climate, there aren't a lot of places in Sri Lanka but Nuwara Eliya would certainly be one of them. Nuwara Eliya is a hill station found in the center of Sri Lanka, just a bit to the south. When Sri Lanka was under the rule of the Brit, here is where almost all of the Brit came for the ultimate summer getaway. The impact of the colonial time can still be seen in the town, whether it could be in the short name 'Little Britain ' or in the design or in the assorted activities you can dunk yourself in while there ,e.g. cruising, golfing or pony riding. Another vital facet of Nuwara Eliya is that it's one of the most vital cities as far as tea production is concerned. So be ready to see unending zones of tea plantation on each side while you are approaching Nuwara Eliya. Do not forget to drop in on one of many tea factories dotted on the way there ,eg the Labukele Tea estate. The people there will smilingly talk you through the method of making tea from picking the leaf, to processing it, while they show you around their estate. Get ready to be baffled by the variety and flavours of tea you should purchase there. So far as holidaymaker spots are concerned Nuwara Eliya has many. For those that are acquainted with the Hindu mythological classic of Ramayana, the 'Seetha Kovil ' or the Sita church would be a place of interest. According to legend, king Ravana of Sri Lanka kidnapped queen Sita from her dominion in North India and brought her to Sri Lanka. It is assumed it was here, where this church is found, that he kept her. There's a giant foot mark there also, said to be of Lord Hanuman.
