The Oriental rugs are exotic addition to any of your rooms and they bring a lot of colourful atmosphere. However just like the carpeting at home and the upholstered furniture, they get many types of stains – coffee, soda, wine, mud, etc. They require special removal methods to ensure all the colours stay fresh. We have prepared for you some cleaning ideas that will help you maintain them perfectly. You will only need lean white piece of cloth, white vinegar and water. Cleaning Instructions Step 1: Remove the excess stain causing product If you are dealing with a liquid stain, use paper towels to blot the area and remove the excess moisture and if you are dealing with other substances, you may use a spoon to scrape as much as possible of the stain from the fibres. You need to start treating the stains as soon as possible, before it sets too deep into the fibres. If you need to deal with an old stain, vacuum first before following the process shown below. Step 2: Treat the area with water Dilute the stained area with water. Just be careful not to soak the rug – use only enough to wet the stain. To avoid soaking the fabric, you may gently add water to the stain with a piece of cloth. Gently blot the area to remove as much of the diluted stain as possible. Avoid rubbing the stains on Oriental rugs, as this only causes more damage by spreading them around. Remember that only blotting is enough to work on the area. Step 3: Use white vinegar mixture to treat the spot Create a mixture of 1 tablespoon of distilled white vinegar per 1 cup of water to dilute the stained area. Avoid using spot removers made for wall-to-wall carpeting on the rugs as they will damage the wool pile. Cleaning agents containing enzymes will not be appropriate for the wool pile also. If you need to deal with pet urine stains, keep in mind that you need to act quickly because the urine changes the chemical composition of carpet dyes, so try to check them often if your pet frequently urinating on your floors. Step 4: Rinse the treated area Use clean water and a clean cloth to rinse the treated spot and blot with paper towels to absorb the excess moisture. Leave the area to air dry and if you still notice the stain, consider using professional rug cleaning company.
