By Bret Lowder Floor Store VP & General Manager All things being equal – price, schedule, materials, expectations – what is it that convinces you, or anyone, to hire one professional over another? Certification. Whatever its source - college, trade institution, industry association – this piece of paper means that some third party, recognized as an authority, says that the person in question has successfully completed a particular course of study and is qualified to do the job you want done. You want this in a doctor, a lawyer, an accountant, a mechanic - and no less in the person about to install hardwood floors in your home. This is why every Floor Store installer is a National Wood Flooring Association Certified Professional. NWFA certification requires a minimum of two years experience specifically in hardwood installation even to be eligible for the course. To graduate, candidates must complete a three-hour written test and several hands-on tests, including engineered flooring glue-down over concrete, solid strip nail-down, dry lay herringbone, board replacement, and engineered floating over concrete. After graduation, Certified Professionals must complete a minimum of three units of continuing study and training every year to maintain their certified status. Did I mention that every Floor Store installer is an NWFA Certified Professional? There's a reason we are able to guarantee your hardwood installation for life – and that's a thing you'll probably be glad to know when some guy walks into your house with a nail gun. The Floor Store has six Bay Area locations, in Albany, Concord, Dublin, San Rafael, Santa Rosa, and Pittsburg. Visit www.floorstores.com to finnd the store nearest you.
