How to Launder Your University Clothing

Education
If you're a new college student living away from home for the first time, you probably wonder how in the world to launder your university clothing. Chances are you have items such as a football uniform, gym clothes, or tee shirts with your college's name emblazoned on front, blue jeans, socks, and undies. Since your mom may have done all of your wash back home, you may be scratching your head about how to get your clothes clean at the Laundromat. Here are some tips for keeping your laundry fresh and clean.

Find a Safe Laundromat

In a college town, there are probably plenty of safe Laundromats close to the campus. If you live in an apartment complex or a dorm, you may have washers and dryers on the premises. You still have to be a bit careful with your belongings, especially if you live in a questionable neighborhood. If you think you're just going to throw your university clothing into a machine and dash out to have some fun, think again. Not only will other patrons become impatient when you hold up use of a washer or dryer, they may take the contents out and dump everything in a pile. If you're not there to watch over your clothes, everything may get stolen or left in a pile to mildew.

Separate Into Piles

You must separate your whites, darks, and brightly colored university clothing before laundering everything. If you wash your white socks and white tee shirts with your bright red team jersey, you will end up with pink underwear and socks. If you're a girl, this won't be the end of the world. If you're a guy, you might get teased in the locker room or while strolling across campus. Wash both darks and bright colors in cold water so they don't fade; wash whites on warm or hot. It's important to read the labels inside all pants and shirts to see whether you need to hang dry or wash on delicate. You don't want to ruin anything while trying to do your laundry. Bring Supplies

You're going to need to bring cash, especially change, detergent, and hangers to the Laundromat. Get yourself a hamper that doubles as a carryall. You can find these at your college bookstore with your school's name and mascot adorned on them. When everything is dry, fold it, hang it up, and pack it back into the hamper/carry-all. Now you're ready to go home with your university clothing ready to wear again for another week.

Going away to college means learning, growing up, and doing your own laundry. If you want to get your university clothing fresh and clean, you're going to need to find a safe Laundromat, separate the whites, darks, and brights, and bring supplies. You might actually start to enjoy this task, especially if your friends are there at the Laundromat washing their own jerseys, uniforms, and panties, too.
