Lafuma are known for their superb range of garden furniture, most famously their super comfy chairs. But what is it that makes them so easy to sit in all day? The fabrics they use have been specially sourced and chosen to ensure that they are highly resistant to abrasions, tearing/stretching and UV light. One of the most common fabrics found in Lafuma chairs is Batyline. Pioneered by Lafuma, it is a woven synthetic fabric which is strong, giving full support while remaining flexible. Air and liquid can pass through the material, and because it is synthetic it won’t become weak from humid atmospheres. Lafuma chairs made with Batyline are particularly suited to gardens and pool sides, and they can easily be cleaned with soap and water. Some Lafuma products feature Batyline Natural. This is exactly the same as Batyline, however a denser weave is used. Another material used by Lafuma is Airlon. Made from a polyester fibre, it is soft, but most importantly it is strong so it won’t stretch out of shape or sag, and it is also resistant to fading from UV light and rainwater. Furniture made with Airlon is great for camping or picnics, and can be cleaned with a damp cloth. For something a bit more substantial the Padded canvasses are made from a poly-cotton blend, making them soft and appealing. Lafuma uses high density foam padding for the filling, providing high levels of comfort and support – a great chair to sit in! When it comes to frames Lafuma know what’s important: strength, versatility, and something that looks good. For their steel furniture Lafuma use High Level Elastic (HLE) steel tubes which are 15% lighter than other steels of the same strength, but also offer more flexibility – a win win for Lafuma as they are able to create curves in the frame. Although this steel is not cheap it is ideal for the kind of furniture Lafuma produce; the frames are painted for protection against the weather, however Lafuma recommend you do not get them wet as they cannot 100% eliminate the risk of rusting. For some of their other furniture, Lafuma use Aluminium tubes. These alloy frames are lightweight, weather resistant and easy to handle. Because Lafuma want the best they ensure that only 5049, 5449 or 5086 aluminium is used which means that they will last. It is clear Lafuma only want the best for their customers and their products which has contributed to and continued their success. If you have a black cap you need a 35mm groundspear, a red cap indicates a 45mm groundspear, and a yellow cap is for 50mm groundspears. The great thing about these groundspears is that you don’t have to concrete them in as they will hold your rotary perfectly in soil, and Lafuma have made them incredibly easy to install.
