I ran out of my favorite hair styling product a few days ago. I’ve been looking for it for ages, but couldn’t locate it anywhere. This morning, I finally broke down and bought a similar product with the hopes that it would work as well as my favorite. After lunch, I ran out to another store to get some coffee and a bag of candy that I was craving and, surprisingly, my stuff was back on the shelf. I bought it, of course, and I’m happy to have it, but it reminds me of how often my favorite things go out of production altogether. A couple of years ago I decided on which of the many threads for machine embroidery I liked the best and that fit into my budget. A little at a time, I stocked up on the complete array of colors, buying large cones of my favorites. Not long after, the company stopped producing the thread. As I ran low on my favorite shades, I began searching again for a new brand. Luckily, my one-stop embroidery design gallery also sells a great quality, budget-conscious thread! This is especially nice because the local shop that carried my absolute favorite thread is no longer in business. I love having options! When I first began my machine embroidery hobby, I found and downloaded a beautiful free embroidery design of a Southern Belle. I didn’t buy the set right away, and when I tried, I found out that the designer had retired. I looked for other designs that I liked, but none suited me quite as well. As a last result, I contacted the designer and she sold me the set directly. While this was wonderful, I was sad that she would not be offering more embroidery designs for my growing collection. As my dedication to embroidery grew, so did my stash of embroidery supplies. Stabilizers of all types, needles, and all types of helpful tools joined the jumble. Some of these items can be replaced as they get used up or worn out, but some cannot. As the machine embroidery world changes, so do the products that help us to complete our projects. I’m glad that I stocked up! It gives me time to find a replacement before I run out! This is also a good, logical argument when the hubby asks why I have so much stuff. Occasionally, I’ll run low on a specific fabric for a project. If I can’t locate more fabric, I simply use machine embroidery designs and my stash of thread to create complimentary fabrics to accent the project. This is a great way to add edgings to curtains or tablecloths, and an excellent accent at hem or neckline. I’d have a lot more unfinished projects if I had never added machine embroidery to my daily life! While some of my embroidery supplies may become obsolete, at least I’m certain there will always be new ones to take their place and new embroidery designs to make my heart sing.
