For years countries around the world have had air conditioning as a standard fitting in homes and offices and now the UK is slowly catching on but it is still rarely found in homes for domestic use. If you do not want to go to the expense of installing a complete air conditioning system it may make sense to invest in portable air conditioning, simply because it is portable and can therefore be taken with you should you move house. Many homes in the UK do not at present see the need for installed air conditioning, especially as money is tight in the current economic climate, but a unit that can be moved from place to place and cool just the area being used may be a more economic alternative. Most things we purchase for our homes need some sort of installation usually requiring a visit from an engineer to carry out this installation which creates an additional cost. A cheaper alternative, certainly for the UK where long hot summers cannot be guaranteed, could be portable air conditioners which can be used for the few hot days that may come this summer. It is important to understand the differences between a portable air conditioner as opposed to installing an air conditioning system. For one thing an installed system is more expensive and is sometimes not as flexible as portable units, for example if you move house or office you cannot take an installed system with you. There is also the added expense of maintaining an installed system and getting it fixed if anything goes wrong – both of these usually require the services of an engineer which incurs the cost of a call-out charge in addition to any work that may be required. Portable units meanwhile are pretty much “plug and go” with little maintenance needed. Hot weather can be responsible for the onset of allergies such as heat rash and hay fever to name just a few and a little known fact about portable air conditioning units is that they can help to eliminate pollen and bacteria in the air, thus lowering the risk of this sort of allergy. Heat can also bring on other health risks relating to extreme heat, things like dizziness, dehydration, headaches, and even heat strokes and again a portable unit can come into its’ own by being moved to the area where the patient is recovering.
