Choose Your Subject

Subject is the person or thing that you would like to draw. You should be able to grasp every pertinent detail that your subject possesses. These are the details your drawings must portray.

Choose Proper Pencil

When you sketch, you can use one or more pencils depending on how dark or light you want the details to be. Visit a craft or art store where you can buy your pencils. As an artist, you must know that not all pencils are the same. Using an ordinary school pencil might be insufficient in drawing effectively. This will only provide medium line width and line shade. Familiarize yourself with labels of pencils. If you want to create darker shades, there are B pencils you need to purchase. The higher the number of a B pencil is, the darker its shade is. For example, 6B is darker than 2B. Light lines could be drawn with the H pencils. The higher the number of an H pencil, the lighter line it could draw. Always keep your pencil sharp and pointed so you can illustrate better.

Choose The Right Pencil

There are a lot of papers to use for your drawing, but if you want to create a more awesome illustration, choose a paper with very smooth finish. You should maintain the cleanliness of your drawing paper. Do this by washing hands prior to drawing so that stains and smudges may be avoided. If you must leave your drawing to eat, wash your hands before resuming your work. Also, make sure that your hand or any part of it will not rest on the paper where there are paper sketches already. If you must rest or place your hands, be sure it is not on your drawing so as not to blur the lines.

Use Appropriate Eraser

There is a type of eraser that you need to use for a fine drawing. It is a kneaded eraser that can erase lines drawn with a pencil without causing scratches on the paper. Erase and redraw until you are satisfied with what you have done.

Start With Basic Form

The basic firm of your subject must be lightly and quickly drawn with fine lines. Try breaking down the basic form into usual forms or shapes like square, circle, triangle, etc. Take notice of the subject's relationship to other objects beside it. You must take your time in drawing the basic details because it is here where you lay the foundation of an impressive and convincing drawing. Make sure the basic forms are accurate.

Add Details

Once the basic outline is satisfactory, you can start adding details by drawing thin lines that will indicate shadow and light. After you are done, you could finish your line work. Use a fine tipped pen or pencil to add more details to the dark areas with solid lines. Erase any unnecessary lines. Color your drawing if you want.
