There are few places as culturally rich as the Great Indian South. Beaches, Ayurveda, countless temples, meandering backwaters and a plethora of wildlife along with some of the most lip-smacking cuisine that India has to offer is what comprises the most popular tour packages to South India. So don’t go running off to Thailand and Mauritius just yet, not without first discovering the magic of our very own South India tours. Here are just a few of those things that await you on your journey! 1) Ayurveda in Kerala Toughly translated as ‘life science’, ayurveda is one the oldest medical disciplines both in India and the world. With the rising popularity of alternative medicine, ayurveda practitioners can be found almost everywhere across the globe, but the most authentic ayurvedic treatments are still provided in Kerala at dedicated resorts located deep inside the forests. Looking for some clean, healthy rejuvenation? You’ve found it! 2) Hippies in Hampi Never has a city of archaeological ruin been so lively. A tiny hamlet in the upper reaches of Karnataka, Hampi was once home to the Vijaynagar Empire and is now home to... well, hippies. If you’re looking to live it up on a minimal budget, Hampi is the place for you. However, it tends to get a little expensive toward the end of the year, so a good option would be to visit just after summer. 3) Monsoons in Kanyakumari Kanyakumari is known for a quite a few things. One, it is the southernmost point of the Indian peninsula, just beyond which lies a gigantic statue of Swami Vivekanand. It doesn’t match up to The Statue of Liberty, but is an impressive enough sight to leave you in awe. Kanyakumari is also one of the best places in the country to witness the onset of the monsoons, so plan accordingly. 4) Goa There is probably no other destination in the South as popular as Goa. While seasoned travellers may not consider the Goan holiday to be as ‘southern’ as, say, Kerala or Karnataka or Tamil Nadu, Goa is a culture unto itself. And one worth experiencing. Whether you’re a college student looking for a party or a working class professional wanting to simply chill on the beach, Goa has it all. Pull out some paper and write these destinations down, because there’s a good chance you’ll forget all about them once you start doing some research on what to do on your South India tour. There’s that much to do, after all. Be wary of tour packages that offer you any less than a confusing amount of options! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Ninad Chaudhari works as a Web UI Designer / Developer with Cox & Kings.
