Some drivers tend to offer opinions and advice on how insurance for car rentals is optional or an unnecessary expenditure. However, no driver should have to deal with the stress or expense of dealing with damages or loss of the car they are using while on vacation or as the result of a business trip. The good news is there are options for obtaining and utilizing insurance during use of these vehicles. Understanding how to compare and contrast the benefits of utilizing existing coverage, damage waivers, supplemental liability, person accident, and personal affects insurance will make future vehicle renting a breeze. It can help to save each renter from purchasing excessive or repetitive coverage for their brief use of the vehicle. It is also useful to keep in mind the advantages of using one's own insurance for these short term alternative vehicle purposes. For example, a driver can call their provider and speak with an agent about how and when it is possible to receive such coverage for coming trips when he or she would like to use those transportation services. For some, it is easier to consider that there are package insurance deals available through companies that offer car rentals, but it is important to know what one is looking for in coverage so he or she can sift through the offerings and get what they need. First, a driver with existing auto coverage, which clearly states they are protected when driving a car other than their own, can be sufficient. The only problem is that many insurance companies offer "buy what you need" insurance segmentation so that if collision and comprehensive seems unnecessary because of the age and condition of one's vehicle, they don't have to buy it. But when driving another vehicle, protection against potential damage is a smart move. Or another way to use existing coverage is with certain credit cards, auto clubs, or the company the driver works for when on a business trip. Then again when a licensed person who doesn't have a vehicle, vehicle insurance, enough insurance coverage or what they had has expired but they want to utilize car rentals, they can use damage waivers for collision and liability if the car is stolen, vandalized, or damaged in any way. This brings the description of options to number three which is supplemental liability. This is also added to the current coverage that a driver has for their personal vehicle; it extends the amount of monetary coverage one has in case a rather expensive accident occurs while in a new city. On one hand, personal accident covers medical treatment while, on the other hand, personal effects insurance protects a driver's personal or company valuables such as jewelry or electronics that are left behind during a vacation or business trip. It is a lot to consider, but once a driver is well versed in what they may need, he or she will have an easier time signing up for and paying for that coverage long before they wish they had.
