Students of the Month are chosen from four schools that are membersof the Westfield/Mayville Rotary Club. Introduced by Dan Smith, Vocational Service chair, and CrystalLayman, who listed their grades, honors and activities, these youngpeople surely will become citizens who contribute to society. Westfield Academy and Central School Lexie Momberger has been enrolled in the most rigorous courseworkavailable at WACS. A participant in Jamestown Community College sConnections Program, she is enrolled in English, calculus, musictheory and aural skills. |
When she graduates in June, she will haveearned 18 college credits from JCC. A participant in the history competition, We The People, Lexie alsois enrolled in Regents physics, functional anatomy of the limbs andadditional graduation requirements. She will receive a RegentsDiploma with Advanced Designation with Honors upon graduation. Lexie is an active member of the Origamai Club, Key Club, was classtreasurer in her freshman year and has held the office of classvice president for the past three years. She also is a member ofthe National Honor Society.
An asset to the WACS athletic program, she has played two yearseach of junior varsity volleyball and varsity soccer, is presidentof Runner s Club and a four-year member of the track and fieldteam. Lexie is a four-year member of senior high chorus and band,enrolled in voice for the past three years and is a member of theWestwinds and Firecrackers, an all-female singing group. In seniorchorus, she has won the Chautauqua County Music TeacherAssociation s scholarship and has participated in All County. Insenior band, Lexie participated in NYSSMA All County and has wonthe Katie Mansfield Scholarship, Spirit Award and the William C.Ross Award.
She also participated in Guys and Dolls, Piratesof Penzance and Cinderella. The daughter of David and Holly Momberger, Lexie volunteers hertime as a volunteer at St. Dominic s Catholic Church, theWestfield Memorial Hospital Associates and Foundation GolfTournament and both the Patterson Library and Rotary Auctions. Shealso has been employed at Jack s Barcelona Drive-In, Cary CottageInn and Chautauqua Emporium.
She will attend Nazareth College in2012 to pursue a Physical Therapy degree. Brocton Central School Olivia Kaltenbach, a senior, has a current cumulative 96.95average, has been on the high honor roll every quarter since middleschool and is ranked no. 2 in her class. Recipient of the Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award fromthe University of Rochester during her junior year, she also washonored by the U.S.
Department of the Treasury for receivingfinancial literacy, where she ranked within the top 20 percent inthe country. Currently, Olivia is class president, was elected secretary of theJunior Honor Society in her sophomore year and inducted into theNational Honor Society at the end of her sophomore year, for whichshe currently serves as treasurer. When she graduates in June, shewill receive an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors. Olivia has participated in band for the past eight years andcurrently is the high school band president. She has taken part inthe pit band for the musical for the past three years, isco-captain of the Envirothon team, co-editor of the BCS newspaper,the Brocton Review, and has been a member of the Rotary InteractClub during her freshman and senior years.
Outside of school, Olivia is a member of the Brooks MemorialHospital Medical Explorers Post 222, recently took part in the JBCLeadership Launch with state Senator Catherine Young and enjoysskiing. The daughter of Douglas and Jane Kaltenbach, Olivia plans to attendSUNY Fredonia to study bilingual speech pathology and audiology. Sherman Central School Brandon Coccarelli has received awards for his grades having beenon the honor roll since his middle school years and is eighth placein class rank. When he graduates in June, he will receive anAdvanced Regents Diploma.
Involved in trap since the eighth grade, Brandon also has been anoutstanding member of the school s drama group and a majorcontributor to the schools yearbook. Most important for Brandonis physics, due in part because of his desire and career aspirationto design locomotives. One of his passions with physics is learninghow momentum determines how long it will take a locomotive to cometo a stop with 100,000 tons of freight behind it. Brandon s hobbies make up a large part of his spare time asidefrom model locomotives.
He enjoys scratch-building many items andhelps his neighbors by throwing hay bales in summer. The son of Leroy and Rebecca Calhoun, he has two younger brothers.Not sure of where he wants to attend college, Brandon plans onbecoming a locomotive builder or any avenue involved withlocomotives. Future plans include starting his own hobby shop wherehe could build model trains in his spare time. Chautauqua Lake Central School Karlie Johnson will graduate in June with an Advanced Regentsdiploma and in the top 25 percent of her class.
She hasconsistently been on the honor roll, was recognized as a Student ofthe Month twice and named as a Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Karliealso was selected to participate in the Hugh O Brian YouthLeadership conference during her sophomore year. She has been involved with peer educators, peer tutoring andstudent administration. In addition, she is vice president of herclass. Karlie has participated in jayvee and varsity volleyball,basketball and softball and currently is a cheerleader.
Outside ofschool she has played softball for a summer league. In addition, Karlie is a performer, having competed in theChautauqua Lake Idol competition and acting the lead role in theCLCS musical Footloose and the school play. The daughter of Gerry and Lind Johnson and Jim and Debbie Wright,she has four younger siblings. Karlie plans to pursue studies incommunications, psychology or music.
