Places To Visit In New Delhi Offer Tourists A Peek Into Indian Culture And Heritage

Business
Through history, very few cities in the world have been considered to be as old as Delhi, with this city being placed with cities like Jeruselam and Varanasi. Supposed to be over 5000 years old, the city has mentions in the Ramayana and Mahabharata, termed as Indraprastha. During the medieval period also, the Mughal kings had Delhi in their kingdom, although the capitalship was awarded to the city in 1911 by the British Governor General, after being designed by two renowned architects. Presently, being the capital city of India, New Delhi is the largest urban spread in terms of area and is among the fastest growing cities in the world, with growth in every aspect, besides having the seat of central assembly and highest administrative control. It is easily the microcosm of modern India, with the distinction of being the largest metropolitan area in India and 7th largest in the world.

• Historical sites and monuments are among the most famous places to visit in New Delhi, which were built during the time of the Mughals, who were connoisseurs of arts and architecture. Jama Masjid is one of these buildings, built by Shah Jahan. It is the largest mosque in Old Delhi. Floor is entirely made up of black and white marble stones, the outer courtyard being so large as to accommodate about 25,000 people at a time for prayers. It was built over a period of 7 years.

• Red Fort or Lal Qila was also built by Shah Jahan, which was supposed to be the court of the Mughal emperor. It was the residence of the Mughals until 1857. Britishers utilised this fort as a cantonment and after independence, it was used by the Indian army. There are plenty of small structures inside the fort, which are also designed with typical Mughal architecture.

• Humayun’s Tomb is another of the Places to visit in New-Delhi, which showcases the architectural importance laid down by the Mughals. It was constructed by Humayun’s wife in 1562, under the design of a Persian architect. Built entirely with red sandstone, the tomb houses a garden, plenty of fountains and water bodies and benches to sit. Near the tomb of Humayun, there is also the tomb of Babur.

• Lotus Temple or Bahai Temple is a great New Delhi sightseeing place, which is one of its kinds in Asia. The main structure along with the petals are made from marble, with the height being 35 mts and surrounded by 9 pools and big lawns. In the evening, the entire structure is lighted by means of extensive lights, and is open to all people.

Like the Mughals, the Britishers also constructed a number of buildings in New Delhi, such as the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Connaught Place, India Gate, Parliament House, Rajpath, etc. Post independence, New delhi being the capital city, also saw a number of landmarks for New Delhi sightseeing tours. Many of these have relevance to the city being the capital of India and commemorate the likes of Nehru and Gandhiji. Even parks and amusement centres were built for the tourists from different parts of India. There are plenty of museums in New Delhi, shopping malls, gardens, etc. All these places to visit in New Delhi have spun their charm on the tourists since many decades now, making New Delhi sightseeing experience an enriching one. Over the years, modernisation has been done in lots of places and the city is expanding under the name of national capital region and territory.
