Having A Blast In The Summer Capital Of India With Plenty Of Places To Visit In Srinagar

Business
Well known throughout the world as the summer capital of India, the town of Srinagar has been a favourite place for tourists from all over the world. It is located in the Kashmir Valley, besides the Jhelum River, which forms a tributary of Indus. From the aspect of tourism, the Srinagar sightseeing tours have been well known because of gardens, lakes and houseboats and the Kashmiri handicraft items. Besides, there are a number of places to visit in Srinagar for the tourists, who come here during the summers, to enjoy the ice and the cool temperature. Surrounded by the great Himalayas from all sides, Srinagar remains comparatively cooler than the rest of India. Many people also identify Srinagar as the Venice of the East, because of the lakes, the most popular being the Dal Lake. Besides, there are many other lakes in the city along with gardens and various other sightseeing places.

• Dal Lake is quite famous in Srinagar, where tourists enjoy an evening in the houseboats and shikaras. It encompasses an area of about 26 sq km and the total shoreline is about 15 kms. Lots of activities are possible in this lake such as kayaking, canoeing, angling, swimming, houseboat riding and boating. This lake is the second largest lake in the country and is the jewel of the city. Plant harvesting and fishing are two important commercial activities going on in this lake, besides that of the houseboats and Shikaras.

• Considered as a famous pilgrimage place of India, the Amarnath Yatra is taken up by people to reach the Amarnath Caves, which are found in Srinagar. It is situated at a height of about 3888 mts and is said to be more than 5000 years old, making it an important part of the hindu mythology. The cave is 60 feet in length and is said to be the place where Lord Shiva revealed the secrets of immortality to Parvati. There is an ice stalagmite, which resembles a lingam, the mark for Lord Shiva. During Srinagar sightseeing, people also visit the Amarnath Caves, but have to acquire prior permission.

• Rainwari is one of the beautiful places to visit in Srinagar, which has a gurudwara, built by Guru Hargobind Sahib ji, the 6th Guru of Sikh. Close to this gurudwara is the Kathi Darwaza of Hari Parbat Fort. So, when on Srinagar sightseeing tours, tourists can visit both these places in one go.

• Jama Masjid in Srinagar is a popular location for Friday prayers for the Muslim community. Originally built in the 14th century, the place was restored almost completely in the 17th century, and between these days, it had been destroyed many times. It is a mosque which doesn’t have any dome topping it. There are 370 pillars inside the mosque, which visitors can mark during the Srinagar sightseeing to be built of single deodar trunks, and the architectural style is that of the Mughal era.

• Among the historicalPlaces to visit in Srinagar, one archaeological site is there, where the first Neolithic site was started. It is known as Burzahom, which in local parlance means, place of birth. Artefacts and materials dating back to more than 5000 years have been found in this site. Of special importance are the human skeletons belonging to different cultural stages.

Many more lakes are also there in Srinagar, which would be seen in the Srinagar sightseeing, apart from the small hill stations surrounding the main town. People come here for their vacations and enjoy the cool temperatures and the ice during the winters. For honeymoon tours, Srinagar is one of the most popular areas and it is considered to be a great place for vacations for the entire family also.
