Do it yourself crafts are catching on like wildfire. Why buy something from a store and risk running into someone wearing the exact same thing, when you could put your own, unique spin on a garment or accessory and turn it into something one of a kind? One awesome craft that anyone can do is crystalising their high heels with semi-precious beads. While this might sound like a daunting task initially, if you follow this easy, step by step, process, you can have awesomely unique heels that display your personality and are sure to turn some heads. For starters, you’ll need to gather or purchase the following materials: 1) Semi-precious beads such as Swarovski rhinestones 2) Jewel setter that is like a plastic wand with a wax bud on one side and a pointed end at the other that will help you pick up the tiny semi-precious beads 3) E6000 adhesive which is your industrial strength craft glue so that your semi-precious beads don’t detach from the heel. It’s strong, flexible, waterproof, and clear, so even if you’re not an expert, you can still use it with ease 4) Cotton cloth to wipe surfaces without leaving fibres behind 5) Orange stick or other small wooden stick that is normally used to push back cuticles 6) High heel shoes to add the semi-precious beads to. These can be any pair you like. Once you have gathered your materials, it’s time to get started. During the preparation stage of your project, you should clean the heel with your cloth to remove any grease or residue. Then empty some of your semi-precious beads onto a clean, dry surface and turn them so they’re all faceted side up. You might want to practice using the jewel setter a little bit before you get into the real deal so that you know you’re comfortable using it. If you gently touch the faceted face of a semi-precious bead to the wax bud, it will stick. Then if you gently touch the semi-precious bead onto the adhesive, the bond with the glue should be strong enough that the semi-precious bead gets released from the wand. Don’t press too hard or the semi-precious bead will get embedded and need assistance coming lose (which is what to use the orange stick for). Spread some of the e6000 out in a line with enough glue for a few semi-precious beads. The perfect amount will not cover the face of the semi-precious bead but also will not dry before it is placed into position. After the semi-precious bead is in place, use the orange stick to put it in the exact correct position and press down a little bit to ensure a bond. Work out how the semi-precious beads fit onto the heel, starting from the bottom and working up to see how they sit around the heel base. You can either measure this or temporarily stick some of the semi-precious beads with sticky tape to get a feel for the way they’ll look. It’s important that you take your time with this component so that your heels end up looking great with the semi-precious beads and not sloppy. Once you’re finished with both heels, let them dry for a few hours and then wear them out on the town to catch some attention. If they look really good, you might find your friends asking you to make them a pair! Using this step by step guide, creating crystalised high heels with semi-precious beads couldn’t be easier.
