For a world that uses a commodity so common and widely used, opportunities are vast for business. For a paper supplier, the demands for paper must be met accordingly. The production of paper is perhaps one of the widest, and most renowned process that mankind has ever discovered. But back then, every people know how to read or write. It was when the printing press was first invented in Europe that massive printing of books was made possible. Because of that, the demand for paper grew, and thus the role of a paper supplier was emphasized. Different people use paper, and thus there are different papers for every use. Letter size, legal size, A4 and A3 are simply one of the numerous paper sizes used in various fields. But there are numerous considerations for a paper supplier. Since paper is produced using pulp, which is taken from trees, there is a great threat in the environment. Environmental organizations and regulations of the concerned government lobby the production of paper to more ecological means. The worldwide consumption of paper has risen in the past decades, causing the percentage of harvested trees also grew considerably, and thus, deforestation has become one of the leading issues. Logging of old growth forests account for less than 10% wood pulp. The production of paper also affects the prevention of air pollution. Since trees need to be cut down for wood pulp, a vast area of forests may be affected. Trees that help in fighting the carbon dioxide by producing more oxygen are lost. Monoculture, which is the growing of a single crop or plant species for a wide area for a large consecutive number of years, is being practiced by plantation forests where most of the wood pulp is taken practices monoculture, is also an environmental issue. But these ecological disadvantages are not to discourage everyone from using paper altogether! Completely obliterating the use of paper is impossible although traditional notebooks and papers have been slowly replaced with technical advancements like Netbooks or iPads. Environmental organizations only seek to regulate and uphold various ecological ways of producing paper like recycling. It is important that a paper supplier gears towards providing quality, environmentally sustainable products. We have to note that though various technological advances arise, we do not only use paper for taking down notes. Some of its seemingly irreplaceable applications apart from personal use (e.g. diary, school books, and notebooks), include packaging wherein we use paper for paper bags, and envelopes. We also use paper in cleaning (e.g. toilet papers, paper towels). And though we don’t really see them, papers are also used in electricity and electronics (insulation papers for electronic devices for dielectric and permittivity). Other uses of paper include sandpapers, bank notes, receipts, and even money! The development of recycled, eco-responsible, and innovative papers is very important. With all human advances going on, we should never forget to take nature into account. Thus, it is vital that a paper supplier does all-encompassing efforts to not only gain but more importantly to protect our planet. paper supplier
