Known as the last royal capital in Sri Lanka the city of Kandy is a highly talked about tourist destination. Other attractions in this heritage city are the Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, the Tea Museum in the hills of Hantanne and the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawela. One should not miss the beautiful Kandyan dances performed here and the ancient monuments that sit around the Temple of the Tooth that display the rich architecture and the culture that prevailed in the good old days. A number of Kandyan era temples and Hindu shrines are situated within the city as well.
